About the Event

The Educating Future Doctors Forum is not just a gathering; it's a catalyst for change. Doctors of the future need medical knowledge, clinical experience, communication skills, empathy, cultural competence, and technology proficiency to provide patient-centred care.

Medical education in the UK is at a pivotal stage as the discipline considers how to enhance the training of doctors for the needs of future healthcare. There is a desire to increase the number of doctors in training, with an exploration of alternative training pathways such as the medical degree apprenticeship and the shortened 4-year curriculum. The profession aims to attract students from widening participation backgrounds while ensuring students and junior doctors can manage perceived stress and are retained in the system.

One solution may be the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, which are providing opportunities to introduce innovative pedagogies to medical education. Increased use of simulation at selected points of the curriculum could augment students' access to patients in the NHS. This one-day conference will bring together medical educators from across the UK to discuss these important issues.
Why Does It Matter?
Medical education shapes the future of healthcare. By innovating and improving how we train doctors, we directly impact patient care, healthcare systems, and community well-being.
